The subject of traffic enforcement cameras in Lynnwood, while important, is an issue that The Herald seems obsessed with. In fact, it seems to me that a debate might not have resurfaced in Lynnwood as the June 29 article postulates, but that the real debate is apparently mostly inside The Herald newsroom.
A simple web search shows approximately 65 articles written by or published in The Herald about red light technology since 2007. A large majority of those focused on Lynnwood.
Although far from perfect, red light camera technology seems to be working in Lynnwood. Residents here generally know where the technology is and have changed their behavior. Not so much for those who are from out of town.
I hope the good reporters at The Herald haven’t lost their passion to be dependable and trusted sources of local news. Because trying instead to frame the debate, or over-report a story is a slippery slope for a credible news organization.
