Excellent article about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and and how to honor his life. (‘The life of Martin Luther King Jr., and where to celebrate” by Sara Bruestle.) My favorite is No. 3: “Treat your fellow Americans with dignity and respect, regardless of their background.” This is something each of us can do daily. Since we live in a democracy we can also ask our representatives and senators to support programs that make a difference in people’s lives, like SNAP to battle hunger. A call or a letter can help them understand the importance of these safety net programs. Dr. King asked, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” Treating others with dignity and respect and helping those in need are certainly a good answers to Dr. King’s question.
