I felt compelled to respond to the Wednesday letter writer regarding the Republican platform on abortion. The person does not accurately state what the platform actually says, and is being disingenuous by misstating facts. The Republican platform simply opposes public revenue to promote or perform abortions or to fund organizations that support or advocate abortions.
The letter writer also incorrectly states that Republicans believe that a woman is pregnant before conception. How ludicrous is that? I find it interesting that people who support abortion for any reason euphemistically state that it is “a woman’s right to choose.” Wouldn’t it be more accurate to state that “it is a woman’s right to choose to kill an unborn human life”? This then begs the question of when is a human life a real human life? Those of us who believe in God, also believe that a human being has a perishable human body and a everlasting spirit which inhabits the body while on earth. Does God endow a human body with a spirit at two weeks, four weeks, six weeks, three months, six months, etc., or at conception? My belief is that it is at conception unless we want to pretend to be God.
