While I remain kind of neutral on the gun control issue, it does strike me that the writer of the letter, “Let’s be up front about real agenda,” is making a pretty astonishing claim that those who would regulate the sale of assault weapons and 50 round magazines are really trying to confiscate all guns. Where does that notion come from? As far as I can see, the genie is out of the bottle in this country and is not likely to go back in, but there are still a few common-sense restrictions that might be put into effect. How on earth is any of this going to affect legitimate gun owners?
To stipulate that anyone arguing for any gun regulation first “admit” that their final objective is to confiscate all guns before having a real debate, is a pretty sure way to shoot down the debate before it can start. Not to mention, it sounds deeply paranoid.
