Reading about WWll veteran, Farlan Dubarry (“’You can imagine the joy,’ vet says of war’s end 75 years ago,” The Herald, Sept. 2), brought back good memories for me. I was a teenager during WWll, and like all good Americans wanted to do all I could to help the war effort. One of mine was to write to the servicemen to keep their spirits up. I never met any of them. So, when I read of any of them I often think: “I wonder if I wrote to him.”
There aren’t that many of us left that were a part of WWll. We were so proud of our “red, white and blue” fluttering in the breeze. I’ve carried my patriotism all these years, flying my flag proudly, as well as raising two career Marines! God bless America.
