EVERETT — The Vancouver Canadians did something Sunday they have rarely done this season.
They beat the Everett AquaSox.
Bryan Lizardo, Jacob Anderson, D.J. McKnight and Juan Tejada each homered, leading the Canadians to an 8-6 win over Everett in Northwest League baseball action.
The win marked just the second time Vancouver has beaten the AquaSox in 12 tries this season.
The home run by Lizardo drove in Javier Hernandez to give the Canadians a 2-1 lead.
Vancouver added four runs in the fourth and two in the fifth. In the fourth, Anderson and McKnight hit two-run home runs. Tejada hit a two-run shot in the fifth.
Everett saw its comeback attempt come up short after Eric Filia hit an RBI double in the ninth inning to cut the Vancouver lead to 8-6. But Nick Hartman earned his fourth save of the season by getting Nick Thurman to ground out with a runner on second to end the game.
Vancouver starter Patrick Murphy (4-5) picked up the victory despite allowing four runs and six hits over six innings. Opposing starter Ljay Newsome (6-3) took the loss. He allowed eight runs and seven hits over four innings.
In the losing effort, the AquaSox recorded a season-high six doubles. Filia doubled twice and singled, and drove in two runs. Nick Zammarelli doubled and singled twice, driving in a run and also scoring one.
The Sox, who have wrapped up the NWL’s second-half North Division championship, move on to Boise, where they open a five-game series Monday night.
