PASCO — Offense came early, but not often for the Everett AquaSox on Friday night.
The Sox jumped to a two-run lead in the top of the first inning, but that was all the runs they scored as they lost to the Tri-City Dust Devils 3-2 in Northwest League baseball action at Gesa Stadium.
The two teams entered Friday’s game — the first game of a three-game weekend series — tied for the top spot in the NWL’s North Division with 9-5 records. The Dust Devils now hold a one-game lead on the Sox.
Everett scored in the first on an RBI triple by Kyle Lewis and a run-scoring groundout by Kristian Brito, but managed just three hits the rest of the game.
Tri-City tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning off AquaSox starting pitcher Matthew Festa. Josh Magee and Chris Mattison delivered RBI singles for the Dust Devils.
Tri-City took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Nate Easley greeted relief pitcher Reggie McLain (0-1) with a single to left field, moved to second on a balk and took third on a wild pitch. Magee then drove in what proved to be the winning run with a sacrifice fly.
Easley finished the game with three hits.
Tri-City starting pitcher Braxton Lorenzini (1-1) picked up the win. He pitched five innings, allowed just one hit — the triple by Lewis — and struck out four.
