Former Seahawk Walter Jones elected to Pro Football Hall of Fame

Walter Jones, one of the best left tackles in NFL history, was elected to the Pro Football Hall of fame in his first year of eligibility Saturday night.

Jones joins receiver Steve Largent and defensive tackle Cortez Kennedy as the only Seahawks in the Hall of Fame.

In 12 seasons with the Seahawks, Jones was named an All-Pro six times and Pro Bowler nine times, and was named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 2000s. He helped pave the way for Seattle’s only Super Bowl season before this year as part of a line that blocked for 2005 MVP Shaun Alexander.

Jones, who was the No. 6 overall pick in the 1997 draft, started 180 games in his career, the second most as a Seahawk behind Largent, and was flagged for holding just nine times in his career and allowed only 23 sacks.

Joining Jones in this year’s class are linebacker Derrick Brooks, punter Ray Guy, defensive end Claude Humphrey, receiver Andre Reed, defensive end Michael Strahan and cornerback/safety Aeneas Williams.
