Prep girls soccer: Kamiak 2, Edmonds-Woodway 0

MUKILTEO — Kamiak’s Marie Scott and Maddie Seckman each scored a goal and the Knights took a significant step to clinching a district playoff spot with a victory over Edmonds-Woodway.

Scott, returning to play for the first time after suffering a concussion over two weeks ago, scored in the 29th minute from 20 yards out after receiving a cross from Seckman. Seckman added the second in the 62nd on a free kick from over 35 yards out.

After losing the first match to the Warriors, 3-0, Knights head coach Beth Stewart adjusted her formation to account for Edmonds-Woodway forward Madison Schultz, who leads the Wesco Conference in scoring with 22 goals.

“We definitely changed our gameplan to account for (Schultz),” said Stewart. “We dropped a center midfielder (Bailey Lux-Lowry) to manmark Madison and try to double team her as often as possible and to frustrate her a little bit.”

The plan worked as Kamiak controlled the first half and managed the second as the Warriors pushed more players forward. Overall, the Knights outshot the visitors 20-11.

The win ensured Kamiak stayed three points ahead of Jackson for the final playoff spot in the Wesco 4A South Division, while Edmonds=Woodway fell into a tie for first place with Cascade.
