ARLINGTON — Monroe’s Alyssa Egan hit an RBI single in the top of the 12th inning to break a 6-6 deadlock and the Bearcats held on for a 7-6 win to hand Arlington its first loss of the season.
“Gotta give credit where credit is due,” said Arlington head coach Dan Eng. “(Monroe) came out with a fire in their belly and wanted the game more than we did.”
Savanna Hohenstein went 3-for-5 with a double and a triple to lead the Bearcats. Arlington’s Katelyn McDonald hit two doubles and finished 3-for-6 and starting pitcher Haley Fields also went 3-for-6.
After Monroe scored twice in the top of the seventh to send the game into extra innings, neither team could push a run across until the 11th when the Bearcats got one. Arlington answered right back in the bottom of the inning when Katelynn Kazen scored on a passed ball to keep the contest going. The Eagles had a chance to rally in the home half of the 12th. Arlington advanced a runner to third, but a failed safety squeeze turned into a double play when the base runner didn’t break on contact and subsequently got caught in a rundown.
