Prep volleyball: Darrington earns No. 4 seed at state

STANWOOD — A long day of volleyball ended with Darrington earning a four seed into the 2B state playoffs.

All told, the Loggers played four matches Saturday, beginning with a three game sweep of Seattle Lutheran and ending with a five set loss to Orcas Island.

In between, Darrington fell to Bear Creek in four sets (16-25, 20-25, 25-22 and 15-25) which sent them to the consolation bracket where it faced Tacoma Baptist with the final state berth on the line.

The Loggers emerged victorious against Tacoma Baptist in a four set match, winning by scores of 25-21, 25-22, 22-25 and 25-23.

Brandy Hadaway slammed 14 kills and Jill Goldman had 24 digs to lead the Loggers.

With the state berth in its pocket, Darrington emptied its bench against Orcas Island in a match that would determine the three and four seeds from the district. The Loggers wound up losing in five sets by scores of 19-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-22 and 12-15.
