S EARL THOMAS
On Richard Sherman’s interception: “If they see me going that way, it’s one-on-one so they’ve got to throw on him. He does a great job on his technique, so polished, the best corner in the league, and he just shows up week in and week out.”
On the defense playing better after last week’s loss: “It was just us being normal. A loss doesn’t define us. If we have a bad game in y’all guys’ eyes when a quarterback only throws for 220 yards, that’s just high expectations and we appreciate that.”
On knocking Kam Chancellor down while celebrating: “See, they’re sleeping on me. I might be short but I’m strong, especially with my momentum pumping like that.”
On surviving a blocked FG turned Titans touchdown: “It helps that we’re at home. We can’t do that on the road. One thing you’ve got to do on the road is bring your special teams and defense.”
On eliminating big plays: “Last week, guys were not themselves. This week guys played great. We’ve just got to lock in and stay connected to the process.”
S KAM CHANCELLOR
On getting knocked over by Thomas: “He’d been delivering hard hits all game, that was just one of the hard hits, and leverage wins. You get a little guy get up under your chin, he might knock you out. So you better be careful.”
CB RICHARD SHERMAN
On the Thomas/Chancellor celebration: “That was them swaggin’, man. The swag just got a little bit carried away. It went from Top 10 to Not Top 10.”
On the defense stepping up: “We just showed what we can do. It’s ordinary. It’s what we expect from one another. We expect these kind of plays, this kind of effort. We felt like we just cleaned the plays up. Earl did an outstanding job the whole game making sure the top stayed on the defense, covering everything, making big hits. Kam did the same thing, Brandon kept fighting, kept battling the whole game, and that’s what it comes down to, eliminating the big plays.”
“Our D line and linebackers played outstanding on Chris Johnson, played gap-sound football, they hit him every time, kept hitting him, kept hitting him, kept hitting him, and they kept pressure on Fitzpatrick, and that’s the way we were able to get out of here.”
On what the Titans must be thinking throwing down the sideline at him: “I don’t even know. I think they were trying to give me the ball.”
On beating the Titans despite sloppy play: “You gotta win ugly sometimes. When we do, shoot, a win is a win. It’s still a W.”
S (and apparently backup holder) CHRIS MARAGOS
On the snap he fumbled, leading to a Titans TD: “I held four years in college, so I’ve had a lot of experience holding. So that wasn’t the issue whether I’d ever done it before.
“It was just kind of a fluke thing. I took like 25 snaps on the sideline, I was getting the kicker lace, I was spinning it perfect, perfect tilt, it was beautiful. Then I got out there and they rub those balls super slick, so I caught it and when I was bringing it down, it just squirted out of my hand. It wasn’t like I caught it weird or bobbled the snap, it just slipped right out when I was putting it down.”
On his decision to run/try to throw: “At that point I was just trying to give a fire call, just make something happen. I should have known better, it should have been better awareness on me. It was really all my fault. Coaches can’t take any blame. I should have just knelt on it or just threw it down or something. Our defense was playing great, it was right before half, it’s like, so what, we didn’t get three points, but that’s the way it went, and I’m just happy we got a win.”
On if he was glad K Steven Hauscka was back, which meant punter and regular holder Jon Ryan was no longer kicking: “Actually, I wanted to go hold again. If there’s ever an opportunity, I want to do it. I’m really confident. It was a weird thing.”
On Steven Hauschka’s tackle attempt that resulted in his injury: “I was getting double-teamed, so I was trying to fight two guys, but it was a really hard smack. I saw Hauschka fall back kind of like this (falls back into locker), I was like, ‘He might be dead right now.’ But I’m glad he bounced back. I’m going to have to give him a hard time now, because he might have to get in the cold tub today for the first time ever. He might feel what the rest of us go through every week.”
