Seahawks re-sign DT Clinton McDonald, release T Mike Person

Clinton McDonald, who was a somewhat surprising victim of cut day earlier this month, has re-signed with the Seahawks. Tackle Mike Person was released to make room on the roster.

McDonald, who Seattle acquired in a 2011 trade with Cincinnati, had been a regular in Seattle’s defensive line rotation the past two seasons, but was released, likely in part for salary cap reasons, prior to the start of the season. McDaniel was a restricted free agent who had signed his tender, which would have paid him $1.323 million this season. Two other players who were scheduled to play under the same RFA tender, safety Chris Maragos and long snapper Clint Gresham, agreed to new smaller deals before the start of the season. It’s possible McDonald had the option to do the same but said no, willing to take his chances in free agency.

McDonald appeared in 29 of Seattle’s 32 regular-season games over the past two seasons and had 60 tackles. He gives the Seahawks depth at defensive tackle with starters Brandon Mebane and Tony McDaniel both battling minor injuries.
