Silvertips top Raiders 3-1 for 4th straight win

PRINCE ALBERT, Saskatchewan — The Everett Silvertips avoided a letdown against a suddenly resurgent Prince Albert team as they defeated the Raiders 3-1 before 2,014 fans at the Art Hauser Centre Friday.

The Silvertips (35-12-8-2, 80 points) have now won four straight and five of six while maintaining their lead in the U.S. Division. Everett has also now won five straight against the Raiders, a team the Tips see once per season.

The Raiders (15-39-3-2, 35 points) are in full rebuilding mode, but had won two straight and six of 10 entering Friday’s contest.

Both teams traded power plays in a scoreless opening period before Everett assumed control with three goals in the second stanza.

The Silvertips broke the scoreless deadlock when Eetu Tuulola potted a rebound of Noah Juulsen’s shot at 5:14 in the second. It was Juulsen’s sixth point in five games since returning from injury.

More importantly, Tuulola drew a roughing penalty from Max Martin after the goal giving Everett its second power play. Riley Sutter deflected in the puck during the ensuing man advantage at 5:59. Officials conferred before awarding Sutter the goal for a 2-0 lead.

Patrick Bajkov pushed it to 3-0 with a power-play goal at 12:44. It was Everett’s second power-play goal of the game after entering the game on a 2-for-46 power-play skid.

Hart finished with 26 saves on 27 shots. He lost his bid for a league-best ninth shutout at 18:11 in the final period when Curtis Miske scored on the power play.

Everett finished 2-for-4 on the power play while Prince Albert was 1-for-5.

The Tips conclude their six-game East Division swing at 5 p.m. Saturday at Swift Current.
