Officer Deneese Elfenson, who has worked for King County Sheriff’s office since 1985 and is a Storefront Officer in Shoreline, lost her Kenmore house in a fire.
At about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, the fire started when the power in Elfenson’s house came back on and created a surge that affected the wiring in her stove, where the fire began.
Elfenson and her two boys, ages 13 and 11, were not at home, as they had gone to stay with the boys’ grandparents because they had no heat or power, according to Shoreline officer Leona Obstler.
Elfenson stopped by the house at about 9:30 p.m. to pick-up some items, saw the fire and called 911. The family’s three dogs were in the home in the back family room in their kennels and all survived.
The house was declared a major loss and Elfenson does have insurance.
“What Deneese keeps telling us to tell people is that if your power goes out, to turn off their power at the breaker box,” said Obstler. “Deneese also told me that it is important to have insurance and keep it current.”
Anyone can donate to help the family through any Bank of America branch, to the Deneese Elfenson House Account.
