Who’s Who: Michelle and Ron Clyborne leap into real estate

They first were a team on the motorsport marathon circuit. Now, Michelle and Ron Clyborne team up to sell real estate.

The couple entered the field with Clyborne Real Estate Co. in 2001. Throughout the past decade, the couple says customer service has been a key to success.

Q: How, or why, did you decide to open your business?

A: As a life goal, Michelle passed her real estate exam in 1995. Ron was not ready to retire from his investment-consulting business. At that time we were dating and we shared a love for travel and adventure, competing together as a team all over the world in motorsport marathon events. It was a natural transition to pursue our careers together in real estate as a team. As a result, we are celebrating just over 10 years affiliated with Windermere Real Estate North serving south Snohomish County and individually have been recipients of the Five Star Service Awards since 2009.

Q: What convinced you that this was the job for you?

A: For Michelle: There was no convincing for me. It was always part of my life plan since I was a teenager. My dad was a broker in California and I would help him with open houses on weekends.

For Ron: Well, Ron was not ready to retire and he was always coming home enthusiastically with real estate brochures. Remembering how stressful it was when we purchased our home in Edmonds, combined with our robust business experience, we wanted to do something that helped people with major life goals. It was a natural step to help people find their dream home or an investment property.

Q: What does it take to blend your passion with your livelihood?

A: Surround yourself with like-minded passionate people! We are lucky to have many friends and family in Edmonds to share that with.

Q: What are the crucial elements of success for your business?

A: Never give up! Be an ethical, creative team and, at the end of the day, it is not about us – it is about taking good care of our clients.

Q: What has been your biggest challenge and how did you meet it?

A: Our biggest challenge is balancing our real estate careers with our community volunteerism and time with family and friends. I think everyone struggles with this one. We both share a strong spirit of adventure and curiosity – that desire to see what is on the other side of the mountain keeps us on our toes; however, living in Edmonds often reminds us of how grateful we are to live in such a wonderful community.

Q: How did your friends and family react when you told them you were getting into this business?

A: They were supportive and remain so. It really touches our hearts when our family tells us that they are proud of us, of our hard work ethic, professionalism and commitment to our community – that means the world to us.

Q: What motivates you?

A: We motivate each other, but it’s our family, friends and community that really motivate us.
