MARYSVILLE — Police seized a car they believe may yield additional clues in the death of an 18-year-old man found in a middle school parking lot.
The car, owned by a relative of the man prosecutors say is a murder suspect, appears to have bloodstains inside it, according to police.
Detectives obtained a search warrant to process the car on Thursday, with assistance from Washington State Patrol crime laboratory personnel, Marysville police Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux said.
"There appeared to be a presence of blood in the vehicle, however, DNA typing will be necessary to determine if the blood is human, and if so, who it came from," Lamoureux said.
Detectives continued to investigate the death of 18-year-old Brady Michael Sheary, whose body was found about 6 a.m. Tuesday in a staff parking lot at Cedarcrest School in the 6400 block of 88th Street NE. Sheary suffered traumatic injuries and was beaten, but his cause of death has not been released.
A patrol officer found the car on Wednesday at an apartment complex in the south Marysville area, Lamoureux said. It is registered to a relative of an 18-year-old man who knew the victim and had been seen with him by a police sergeant about 1 a.m. Tuesday.
The man was arrested later that day on an unrelated allegation that he possessed methamphetamine. He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail, where he is being held in lieu of $5,000 bail. Police said they don’t have enough evidence to charge him in Sheary’s death. A prosecutor in court for the man’s appearance on the drug charge Wednesday told the judge that the man is a suspect in a homicide.
"Any evidence collected from this vehicle that ultimately links it to the death of Brady Sheary will certainly be a key piece of the puzzle investigators are working very hard to put together," Lamoureux said.
