Meadowdale holds off Arlington

ARLINGTON – Jake Linton was too hot for the Arlington Eagles to handle.

Linton, a senior guard, scored 16 of his game-high 23 points in the first half as the Meadowdale boys basketball team raced to a double-digit first-half lead and held off Arlington 51-44 in a non-league game Tuesday night.

Linton hit four 3-pointers in the first half as Meadowdale built a 29-16 halftime lead.

Arlington rallied in the second half, outscoring Meadowdale 28-22, but could get no closer than five points.

David Griffiths led Arlington with 17 points. Stephan Devery and Brett Smith each added 10.

Linton was the only Meadowdale player who scored in double figures.

Mountlake Terrace 87, Cleveland 79: Cleveland whittled down Mountlake Terrace’s 15-point, fourth-quarter lead to just four points with two minutes remaining, but the Hawks held on for the victory in the Edmonds School District Tournament. Lakewood 68, Chimacum 67: Lakewood held on despite a huge fourth quarter by Chimacum’s Steven Grey to advance to the title game in the Eighth Annual Cougar Holiday Classic.

Grey scored 26 of his 39 points in the fourth quarter. Lakewood led 49-30 going into the fourth quarter, but Chimacum outscored the Cougars 37-19 in the final period.

Anthony Wiederkehr led Lakewood with 25 points.

Alameda 72, King’s 60: The little school that could finally met a powerhouse it could not topple.

The King’s High School girls basketball team suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday as the Knights fell to Alameda, Calif., 70-62 in the semifinals of the Surf and Slam Tournament in San Diego.

The loss dropped King’s to 10-1.

Sara Mosiman scored 24 points to lead King’s. Her teammate Hayley Zevenbergen had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Knights.

“We just did not shoot the ball that well tonight,” King’s coach Eric Rasmussen said.

King’s had advanced to the semifinals by knocking off St. Joseph’s of New York 66-44 in the quarterfinals.

Jennifer Lind, a 5-11 freshman, made her varsity debut for the Cougars and finished with six points and 12 rebounds.
