Second-half defense propels E-W to win

EDMONDS — The Edmonds-Woodway Warriors used a strong defensive effort and solid outside shooting to defeat Mountlake Terrace 67-41 Friday night in a Wesco South contest.

The Hawks made just two field goals in the second half — including none in the fourth quarter — as the Warriors pulled away for the victory.

“We just stepped it up defensively,” E-W coach Gail Pintler said. “We didn’t really do anything different (with the game plan).”

Connor Donaldson led all scorers with 20 points and had seven rebounds for Edmonds-Woodway. Sean Laue had 13 points and three steals, James Conti had 12 points and Max Ortiz dished out seven assists for the Warriors.

Pintler added that he was particularly pleased with the defensive efforts turned in by Warriors big men Donaldson, Oliver Enquist and Kenan Polovina.

“Our bigs had to play very good, aggressive defense against their bigs,” he said. “(They gave) a very strong defensive effort.”

Tarik Kundeklija had 13 points for Mountlake Terrace and was the only Hawks player in double figures.
