4th-quarter effort boosts Meadowdale

MILL CREEK — The first time Meadowdale and Jackson met this season, Meadowdale took a Wesco South victory in a cake-walk.

The Mavericks won again Tuesday night, but it was a lot closer.

Meadowdale came back from a four point deficit at the start of a the fourth quarter to take their second Wesco North victory of the season from the Timberwolves, 45-40.

But Meadowdale needed a jump-shot with 35 seconds left from Roger O’Neill to break a 40-40 tie and take the lead for good. After a defensive stop at the other end, Jackson was forced to foul.

“We played much better defense this time,” Jackson coach Steve Johnson said. “We’re getting better. … It’s encouraging even if the result is obviously disapointing.”

Paul Werner hit three 3-pointers for Meadowdale and finished with team high 15 points.

Jackson was led by Bryan Koch, who grabbed eight rebounds and scored a game-high 19 points.

Aaron Matzen had 18 points and Andrew Beatty added 10 for Lynnwood, who tied the score at 56 before being assessed the technical foul for calling the timeout.
