Rep. Hans Dunshee recovering after hospitalization
SNOHOMISH -- State Rep. Hans Dunshee, D-Snohomish, is on the mend after suffering a serious staph infection last month that forced him to be hospitalized for five days.
Dunshee said Tuesday he nicked the lower part of his right leg getting in and out of a kayak and the small cut became infected.
When he went to a health care clinic in Snohomish for treatment April 19, a doctor immediately sent him to Providence Everett Medical Center.
"I would have been dead if it was not for modern medicine," he said.
These days Dunshee is spending a lot of time with his leg elevated to speed up the healing.
The recovery will keep him from attending Thursday's nominating convention of the 44th Legislative District Democrats. As the incumbent, there is little doubt he will pick up the official party nomination from the district's precinct committee officers.
Dunshee said he is hoping to join Rep. Liz Loomis, D-Snohomish, at three town hall meetings Saturday. He said if he attends he will be sitting down throughout.
The two lawmakers will be holding three town hall meetings, each free and open to the public. The first is set to begin at 10 a.m. at the Lake Stevens School District Administration Building, 12309 22nd St. NE in Lake Stevens.
At 1 p.m. the two are scheduled to be at the Snohomish School District Administration Building, 1601 Ave. D in Snohomish. They will wrap up at 3 p.m. in the Mill Creek City Hall annex, 15720 Main St. in Mill Creek.
Dunshee, who is seeking a seventh term in the Legislature, is vice-chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. As of Tuesday, he faced no challenger from the Republican Party.
Meanwhile, the 44th Legislative District Democrats will hold a general meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Snohomish School District Resource Center, 1601 Ave. D in Snohomish.
The only two declared candidates are incumbent Reps. Hans Dunshee and Liz Loomis and they are both expected to receive the group's nomination.
