The Herald and the Washington Coalition for Open Government plan to present a program Wednesday in Oak Harbor focusing on Washington’s public records and open meetings laws.
The event is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Oak Harbor Library, 1000 SE Regatta Drive. A panel of experts will discuss the public’s legal right to access to records and proceedings of government agencies.
Panelists include Toby Nixon, a former state representative; Graham Johnson, former executive director of the state Public Disclosure Commission; Paul Schmidt, city administrator for Oak Harbor; and Tim Ford, assistant state attorney general. State Rep. Barbara Bailey, R-Oak Harbor, will moderate the discussion. Nixon is serving as president of the Washington Coalition for Open Government.
The forum is free and open to all, and questions and comments from the audience are welcome.
The moderator and panelists each have devoted significant parts of their careers to the cause of government openness and accountability.
The Washington Coalition for Open Government, based in Seattle, is a statewide nonpartisan, nonprofit group of individuals and organizations focused on preserving the public’s right to know what its government is doing.
