For one week, Dave Matthews Band is giving away the first single from its upcoming June 2 album, “Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King.”
You can visit a special Web site now, fork over your e-mail address and get a download code for the track, “Funny the Way It Is.” The track is free until Tuesday, when digital retailers get a hold of it.
Granted, I forked over my address more than 24 hours ago; still no download code. I’m guessing the site is getting hammered with requests, since the song is the group’s first new studio track in four years.
If you’re anxious to hear the sucker, well, no worries. Some helpful fans have posted it on YouTube. See:
The song was produced by Rob Cavallo, the guy who helped turn punk group’s like Green Day and My Chemical Romance into bonafide arena rock.
While it’s not the group’s strongest material, that’s no huge shock. After all, Coldplay gave away the song “Violet Hill” to get people salivating about “Viva la Vida or Death and All HIs Friends.” Now, that song barely ranks as a highlight from the album.
