Everett Community College is doing a disservice to parents by eliminating the Child and Family Life (CAFE) department. This department has provided parent education to seven cooperative preschools, reaching as far as Sultan and Darrington, where there are few other options for parents. Parents choose co-op preschools so they can establish a strong connection with their children and improve their parenting skills — both essential for a strong, healthy society.
The knowledge base I have gained from the parent educators at Marysville Co-op Preschool has given me lifelong skills to employ to be a better parent of my children. EvCC and the public should realize that cutting these programs ultimately hurts children.
