A critics favorite for decades, Yo La Tengo has slowly grown in popularity, gaining new fans without losing the old ones.
The group, who play Seattle in October, saw their 2006 album continue a heartening trend, debuting at No. 66 on the Billboard 200. The album marked the first time the group cracked the top 100 since its formation in 1984.
So is the group’s upcoming album on Matador Records, “Popular Songs,” some sort of career retrospective?
Ha, no, of course not. “Popular Songs” features all new material. What’s more, it’s billed as being an epic that finds the group bending its dreamy sound in new ways.
Fans can order the album as part of a presale underway now for the Seattle show. For a total of $33, fans get a ticket plus the album.
However, a second presale begins Friday, allowing fans to pay $18 for tickets without purchasing the album. Info on that and more is below.
