PREP BOYS BASKETBALL/WRESTLING ROUNDUP: Cascade wins with defense

EVERETT — Thanks to some great defense, and an offense that wasn’t doing too bad either, Cascade continued to roll through the Wesco North Friday night, this time defeating crosstown rival Everett 62-34 at Everett High School.

“(Cascade) just did a great job of playing their zone defense,” Everett head coach Aaron Nations said. “They did a great job pressuring us.”

The Bruins (4-0 in league, 5-1 overall) also excelled on offense, scoring 62 points with only two players scoring in double digits.

“We did our job stopping (leading scorer Chris) McGrath,” Nations said, “but they had some role players that stepped up.

“Their defense was stellar,” Nations continued. “They hit shots, we didn’t. They had a lot of energy tonight.”

McGrath led all scorers with 11 points, and Johnnie Hilliard added 10 points for Cascade, which had nine different players score in the contest. Six different players scored in the third quarter which saw the Bruins run away from Everett (1-4, 1-5) with a 20-4 advantage.

“That shows they’re pretty deep,” Nations said.

Lucas Sontra led the Seagulls with eight points, and Ben Barhanovich and Luke Frauenholtz added seven points apiece.
