PREP ROUNDUP: Cedarcrest wrestlers tighten grip on first place

GRANITE FALLS — In a short Cascade Conference season, every meet is magnified.

So was the case Thursday night when a 1-1 Granite Falls squad hosted 2-0 Cedarcrest, and the Red Wolves cemented their place atop the league standings with a convincing 54-11 win over the Tigers at Granite Falls High School.

Dalton Webb, Cody Paxman, Tim Hagreen, Jordan Barrett, Jed Kenney and Ben Coomer led the parade of Cedarcrest wrestlers who won their matches with a pin, a trend not lost on Granite Falls coach Tony Helgeson.

“It’s just gotta come. We’ve got some young kids who have had a minimal amount of mat time,” said Helgeson. summing up the night. “The talent comes in waves.”
