PREP BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Fast start helps Meadowdale top Mountlake Terrace

LYNNWOOD — Mountlake Terrace outscored Meadowdale 42-38 in the final three quarters of Thursday night’s Western Conference South boys basketball match-up.

But there was still that matter of the first quarter. Meadowdale outscored Mountlake Terrace 15-3 in that quarter which was more than enough to push them to the 53-45 win.

“We got off to a good start in the first quarter, we just kind of maintained that lead throughout,” Meadowdale coach Chad McGuire said. “It was a very even game after the first quarter.”

McGuire said it was his team’s defense that helped them to build the first-quarter lead. Mountlake Terrace made only one field goal in the quarter.

Connor Hamlett led the Mavericks with 20 points, scoring 13 of those points in the second half.

“He did a nice job of working inside,” McGuire said.

Dillon Sand also scored in double figures for the Mavs. Sand had 11 points, nine of which came in the first half, which McGuire said was important for Meadowdale.

“I thought the key was Dillon Sand in the first half,” McGuire said.

Jacob Champoux led Mountlake Terrace with 15 points.

The win keeps Meadowdale right on the heels of Jackson for first place in the Wesco South.

“Any win in league is a nice win,” McGuire said.
