PREP ROUNDUP: Oak Harbor girls fend off Cascade, 37-33

OAK HARBOR — With Cascade needing a win to stay in the race for one of five 4A District 1 playoff berths, Oak Harbor defended its fifth-place position Wednesday with a 37-33 Wesco North victory.

“It was big all the way around,” Oak Harbor coach Brett McLeod said. “It’s getting to that point where every game is big. We wanted to defend our home court and start the week right.”

Behind by nine points midway through the third period, Oak Harbor took the lead for good with a 12-0 run. The Wildcats’ Clarissa Abadesco scored all six of her points in the run.

Lisa Echert hit two 3-pointers and Masha Shtikel hit another, but Mountlake Terrace escaped with the Wesco South win. Corinne Pingul led the Hawks with 15 points, five steals and four assists, and teammate Lauren Wilson added eight points and 13 rebounds.
