PREP BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Mountlake Terrace stuns front-running Jackson

MILL CREEK — A Jackson win on Tuesday against Mountlake Terrace, or a Meadowdale loss to Lynnwood would have clinched the Wesco South championship for the Timberwolves.

The celebration will have to wait.

Mountlake Terrace built a 12-point lead at halftime and hung on for the 69-61 win.

“It was a pretty tough loss,” Jackson coach Steve Johnson said.

The Hawks were led by Jacob Champoux, who scored 25 points, 16 of those in the first half.

Brett Kingma led Jackson with 24 points.

Johnson said Jackson closed the Hawks’ lead in the second half and came back to tie the game 55-55 in the fourth quarter, but Terrace jumped ahead again and sealed the game by knocking down free throws late.

The Timberwolves can still clinch the Wesco South title on Thursday with a win over Kamiak or a Meadowdale loss.

“We’ve got to regroup and try to win Thursday,” Johnson said.
