EDMONDS — The Mountlake Terrace boys track and field team used it’s depth to grab an 11-point win over the rest of the field at the Terrace Twilight meet at Edmonds District Stadium Saturday night.

Senior Dakota Red Cloud and junior Owen Fritz finished 1-2 in the discus to help lead the Hawks to 158 points, 11 more than second-place North Kitsap (147) — Shorewood (127), Mariner (106), Seattle’s Bishop Blanchet (88) and Glacier Peak (86) rounded out the boys field.

Red Cloud tossed a distance of 128-feet, 2-inches, followed by Fritz’s throw of 127-4 to beat out Mariner’s Chris Johnson (127-0) in third place.

Mountlake Terrace’s Alex Martin (170-1) won the javelin and Nolan Ast (5-feet, 8-inches) and Billy Breneman (5-8) finished 1-2 in the high jump, while Zach Karels (42-5) won the triple jump for the Hawks. John Ursino placed third in the triple jump for Terrace with a distance of 38-9. Ursino also took second place in the long jump (19-8).

Mountlake Terrace was able to win despite not having an individual winner in any of the 11 track events. The Hawks took second in both the 400 and 800 team relays.

Mariner’s Corey Pfeiff (15.96 seconds) won the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles (42.81).

Shorewood beat out the rest of the girls field with 209.5 points. North Kitsap (188) took second with Glacier Peak (147.5) coming in third. Mariner (82), Mountlake Terrace (55) and Bishop Blanchet (14) rounded out the girls field.

Glacier Peak freshman Rachel Steranka (1:04.29) won the 400-meter dash and Mountlake Terrace’s Nina Penner (2:23.10) won the 800-meters.

Birger Solberg Invitational: At Bellingham Civic Stadium, Stanwood’s Kale Schmidt won the 400-meter dash in 51.38 seconds and took second place in the high jump (6-0) and long jump (21-6.50) to help lead the Spartans’ boys track team to a first-place tie with Curtis (Tacoma). Minna Fields earned a win in the 3,200-meters (11:18.78) for Stanwood’s girls team, which took first overall with 104 points, and helped the Spartans crush the competition in the 3,200-meter relay (9:55.2). The Spartans’ Kaci Jones won the girls discus (117-9) and javelin (125-4) while also placing third in the shot put (33-6). On the boys side, Jackson (76.5) placed third, followed by Marysville-Pilchuck (45) in sixth, Archbishop Murphy (42) in eighth and Snohomish (38.5) in 10th. James Guy of Archbishop Murphy won the 100-meter dash in 11.50 seconds. The Marysville-Pilchuck girls took fourth overall with 80 points, trailed by Jackson (76.5) in fifth and Snohomish (33) in ninth.

Mooberry Relays: At Spokane, Cascade’s Dylan Hopper placed third in the 1,600-meters with a time of 4 minutes, 28.67 seconds at the Mooberry Relays at Gonzaga Prep High School in Spokane. Hopper’s finish, combined with Aaron Campbell’s third place time in the 3,200-meters (9:58.90), led the Cascade boys track team to a 14th place finish (nine points). North Central of Spokane won the boys team title with 98 points. Central Valley (Spokane) won the girls title.

Cashmere Invitational: At Cashmere, Hap Emmons won the 1,500-meter (4:27.10) and 3,000-meter (9:59.60) events to help lead the King’s boys track team to a second-place finish at the Cashmere Invitational. King’s (117.5 points) couldn’t catch host Cashmere (161). Curtis Clauson won the 110-meter hurdles (15.31 seconds) and the 300-meter hurdles (40.25 seconds) along with winning the javelin (202-feet, 2-inches) and long jump (21-1). On the girls side, King’s finished in third place (94 points) behind a 1,500-meter win from Makenzie Taylor (5:17.00) and a win in the 1,600-meter relay in 4:18.39. The relay member were Caitlin Fransen, Stephanie Rice, Hillary Quinn and Sami McDevitt. Cashmere earned the team win with 119 points.

Baseball

Marysville-Pilchuck 7, Monroe 4 (16 innings): At Monroe, Austin Denton hit a three-run double in the 16th inning for Marysville-Pilchuck in a marathon Wesco North game. Jared Boisseranc batted 5-for-8 with two double and two RBI for Monroe. Tyler Ihrig tossed nine innings of relief for the Bearcats and recorded 11 strikeouts. Brian Funnell hit a two-run home run for M-P.

Lakewood 13, Sultan 2 (6 innings): At Sultan, Mike Leach batted 3-for-3 with three RBI for Lakewood in a Cascade Conference win. Leach hit a two-run home run as part of a six-run fifth inning for the Cougars.

Boys soccer

King’s 2, Sultan 0: At Sultan, Trevor Bartels scored twice in the first half to send King’s to the Cascade Conference win. Nick Swanson assisted on both of the goals in the 19th and 33rd minutes for King’s (5-2-0 league, 5-2-0 overall). Matt Matysik earned the clean sheet for King’s and Clayton Knoles took the loss in goal for Sultan (3-4-0, 3-6-0).
