Aptonyms returns
Last year, The Herald ran a summer series on people and their names and it was called “Aptonyms.”
The word aptonym refers to people whose names aptly suit them because it suggests key attributes of their jobs, professions or lives. Their names might have, in fact, influenced their lives or careers.
Some of the people we featured last year were Fire Chief Travis Hots, stockyard accountant Janet Moo and Linda Savage, etiquette specialist.
We received plenty of responses, enough to run the series again. But we don’t want to leave anyone out.
So if you happen to know an aptonym or are one yourself, send the name to Theresa Goffredo at tgoffredo@heraldnet.com or call 425-339-3424.
Help Haiti: Hundreds of families are helping children in Haiti in a very practical way. They are filling grocery bags with essential toiletries, school supplies and toys, to create Kids’ Healing Kits.
The kits help comfort children in Haiti whose lives were devastated by the January earthquake.
Volunteers delivered grocery bags to hundreds of homes in south Snohomish County.
The bags will include a list of items to fill each Kids’ Healing Kit, focusing primarily in the Mill Creek area. Families can shop for the items, then place the filled bag on their doorstep before 10 a.m. Saturday when volunteers will return to pick them up.
North Creek Presbyterian Church members will assemble items into two-gallon zip-closure bags, which will then be shipped to Haiti by World Concern.
