EVERETT — Snohomish County PUD wants to save its customers money — and it may be coming to your neighborhood.
The utility is launching a pilot program that will target more than 3,000 homes and small businesses in select neighborhoods across the county.
The program, Community Power!, starts this summer and includes measures such as energy-efficient lighting, energy audits and conservation kits.
One of the first projects begins today in the Northwest Neighborhood in Everett.
Volunteers plan to distribute 1,700 compact fluorescent light bulbs for use in porch lights. The project is paid for partly by a small grant from the city’s Office of Neighborhoods.
Other upcoming projects include energy audits at a retail store and restaurant in downtown Snohomish. The Temple Beth Or of Everett congregation and some of its neighbors plan to hand out conservation kits, help people change out old bulbs for more efficient ones and promote energy audits.
In the Delta Neighborhood, people there plan to change incandescent bulbs for CFLs in September.
The PUD also plans to work with multi-family buildings and small businesses in the Casino Road area on energy efficient measures at no or low cost.
The $2.17 million project is paid for by the American Recovery &Reinvestment Act. The utility is accepting applications for other projects. For more information, contact Suzy Oversvee at 425-783-8291 or seoversvee@snopud.com.
