GRANITE FALLS — City Councilwoman Robyn Ross has announced her resignation in a letter to Mayor Sheikh Haroon Saleem and members of the City Council.
In the Aug. 17 letter, Ross wrote that she decided to resign from her seat effective on Tuesday “due to changing obligations and time commitments.” She wrote that she plans to “continue to serve and work in the community as other opportunities present themselves.”
Ross was appointed to fill an open council postion in February 2005 and then elected later that year to retain the position.
Residents can apply for the vacant council seat until 5 p.m. on Sept. 9 at Granite Falls City Hall, 206 S. Granite Ave. in Granite Falls. The term will expire in 2011.
“She was a very valued member of the council,” Councilman Joshua Golston said. “She had her reasons and I accept and support her decision, but we’re going to be sad to see her go.”
