The regular season is history. It’s time for district basketball.
The Class 4A District 1 boys basketball tournament tips off tonight with four first-round games: Western Conference South Division No. 4 seed Cascade (6-14) at North Division No. 1 seed Monroe (15-5), North No. 3 seed Lake Stevens (11-9) at South No. 2 seed Kamiak (12-8), South No. 3 seed Edmonds-Woodway (9-11) at North No. 2 seed Arlington (15-5) and North No. 4 seed Stanwood (8-12) at South No. 1 seed Jackson (18-2). All games are set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
During the league season in crossover games, Monroe beat Cascade 57-52, Lake Stevens beat Kamiak 60-43, Arlington beat E-W 56-53 and Jackson beat Stanwood 73-50.
The top two finishers in the eight-team tournament earn berths to the state regional. The third-place team will play the KingCo tournament third-place finisher for a state regional berth.
Other local district hoops action also starts this week, including the 4A District 1 and 3A District 1 girls basketball tournaments, which both start on Wednesday.

Local players picked for Barden Football Classic
Five players from the Cascade Conference were selected to play in the 2011 Earl Barden All-Star Football Classic: Archbishop Murphy High teammates Tani Tupou (OL/DL), Julius Tevaga (OL/DL) and Austin VanderWel (QB/DB); Lakewood QB Justin Lane; and King’s QB/DB Thomas Vincent. The 17th annual Barden game, which features the state’s best seniors from Class 2A, 1A, 2B and 1B schools, is set for 1 p.m. on June 25th at Zaepfel Stadium in Yakima. Lynnwood’s Fajemisin eclipses 1,000 career points
Mokun Fajemisin, a 5-foot-11 junior wing on the Lynnwood High girls basketball team, scored her 1,000th career point during Lynnwood’s Western Conference 3A victory over Shorewood on Jan. 31, Lynnwood coach Everett Edwards said. Fajemisin scored a team-high 24 points in the Royals’ 66-50 win. Done with an impressive regular season that included 17 victories and three defeats, state-ranked Lynnwood plays a 3A District 1 tournament game on its home court against Everett (13-7) on Wednesday.

Two Lake Stevens High football players decided where they will play in college.
• Offensive lineman Gunnar Eklund will go to Washington State University as a preferred walk-on, Lake Stevens football coach Tom Tri said. Eklund turned down a scholarship offer from Central Washington University and offers from other small out-of-state program, Tri said.
• Wide receiver Brandon Preslar signed on Monday with Montana Tech, an NAIA program in Butte, Mont., according to Preslar’s dad. Check out an updated list of local Class of 2011 student-athlete signings at http://bit.ly/eyZQzY.
Lacrosse on list of WIAA amendment proposals again
The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s Representative Assembly announced its list of proposed amendments for 2011. Once again, the list includes proposals to add boys and girls lacrosse as sanctioned WIAA sports, as well as 11 other amendments. Read the amendments and their rationales at http://bit.ly/esFCuK. According to the WIAA, the amendments will be finalized on March 21 and the Representative Assembly will begin voting on April 1.
