EVERETT — A former corrections officer at the state prison in Monroe is facing a year in jail for having sex with an inmate while she was on duty.
Danette Skelton pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree custodial misconduct. Under state law, it is a felony for a corrections officer to have sex with an inmate.
Prosecutors alleged that Skelton had consensual sex with an offender at the Washington State Reformatory. She began in 2009 bringing him home-cooked meals. The pair exchanged letters and she provided him a cellphone.
The inmate told investigators the two had sex while she was on duty.
Skelton began working at the prison in August 2002. She resigned following a Department of Corrections investigation in December 2009.
The inmate is serving time for burglaries in King County.
