EVERETT — An Everett man was charged Tuesday in federal court in connection with the mass distribution of the drug known as “bath salts.”
Miguel Ashby, 26, was charged with conspiracy to deliver misbranded drugs, and delivering and receiving misbranded drugs, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office in Manhattan. Nine others also were charged.
“Bath salts” are chemical compounds that mimic hard drugs, according to health officials. They tend to have harmful side effects and have been linked to homicides and suicides around the country, including Washington state. The drug makers change the chemicals to skirt federal bans.
They are not the same kind of bath salts sold at drugstores or bath stores.
