MUKILTEO — Police in Mukilteo will participate in speed emphasis patrols for the next three weeks as part of a statewide crackdown.
The extra patrols are planned as a project of the Washington Traffic Safety Commission and law enforcement agencies around Snohomish County.
Mukilteo police will target areas where there have been fatal accidents or serious-injury collisions or where people have complained about speeders, Police Chief Rex Caldwell said.
Those areas include Harbour Pointe Boulevard, the Mukilteo Speedway, Paine Field Boulevard and 88th Street, he said.
The hope is to reduce speeds and make the roads safer in Mukilteo, Caldwell said. Similar emphasis patrols in the city have netted hundreds of traffic stops and 22 arrests since March.
