EVERETT — A homicide investigation continued Tuesday after an Everett man reportedly shot and killed a suspected burglar inside his home.
Police believe the man, 54, surprised the suspected burglar just before noon Monday at his house along 21st Avenue SE, near Costco. There was some kind of confrontation, and shots were fired.
The man who died was identified Tuesday as Johnny Sok, 22, of Everett, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office. He died from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso. His death was ruled a homicide, meaning it was caused by another.
No arrests have been made or charges brought against anyone in the case.
Snohomish County sheriff’s Major Crimes detectives served a search warrant on the home Monday night.
They must conduct a full investigation into the death and forward their findings to prosecutors, who will determine whether the shooting was justified, sheriff’s bureau chief Kevin Prentiss said Tuesday.
That is standard procedure, he said.
“In any case where a person takes another person’s life, you’re going to have a criminal investigation done,” he said.
Detectives also seized a vehicle they believe is connected to the case, Prentiss said.
At this point in the investigation, police don’t believe the homeowner knew Sok. The man who died had no known felony convictions in Washington.
