Waterfront meeting
The city of Everett is planning an open house from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday for what it is calling “the Central Waterfront Planning area,” which includes the soon-to-be vacant Kimberly-Clark mill and some surrounding properties.
The meeting is at the Weyerhaeuser Room at the Everett Station, 3201 Smith St.
Everett City Council members are planning to show up, and while it’s not a formal meeting, the city is putting out a notice in case a majority attend.
Garden Affair classes Saturday
A special series of classes will be held Saturday during the Garden Affair at the Stillaguamish Grange at the Stanwood-Camano Fairgrounds.
The free classes will cover gardening, composting, rain gardens, rain barrels and starting a neighborhood Backyard Wildlife Habitat program.
• At 10 a.m., master gardener Martha Clatterbaugh, a lifelong vegetable gardener, will offer tips on planning a spring garden, deciding what to grow, how to plant and the varieties that grow well in the Northwest.
• At 11 a.m., Nicole Hopper, outreach and education specialist with Taylor Shellfish, will talk about Northwest shellfish and how they are produced.
• At noon, Backyard Wildlife Habitat representatives will talk about how to start a program in your neighborhood or town.
• From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Stacy Aleksich from Snohomish Conservation District will cover rain barrels and rain gardens including sizing barrels, handling overflow, what rain barrels can be used for and how to create your own.
• At 3 p.m., Caitlin Price, a Conservation District compost specialist, will discuss how to have a beautiful, productive garden by building soil and creating compost.
