GOLD BAR — A Gold Bar man apparently didn’t love his neighbor as himself.
Now he’s locked up in the Snohomish County Jail.
Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies arrested the man, 51, early Saturday morning for investigation of first-degree assault.
He’s accused of shooting at his neighbor and one of her friends.
An Everett District Court judge Monday maintained the man’s bail at $50,000.
Deputies were called to the 41000 block of Dorman Road around 1 a.m. Saturday after a woman reported that her neighbor shot at her with a firearm.
The woman told deputies she was walking home with her boyfriend. She said they were arguing when they walked past the man’s property.
That’s when she said her neighbor came out of her house and shined a spotlight that blinded them.
The man reportedly yelled, “Shut the (expletive) up!”
She told the man that they had been neighbors for years and he should not talk to her that way, according to court papers.
That’s when she heard a gunshot, she told deputies.
The suspect told deputies he did not shoot at his neighbor. He said he shot his .22-caliber rifle into the ground.
That’s not how the woman’s boyfriend saw it.
He told deputies he saw a muzzle flash pointed their direction — not at the ground.
The suspect had “a strong odor of alcohol” on him, a deputy wrote in an affidavit to establish probable cause for the man’s arrest. The man told deputies he had been drinking rum.
Deputies said they believe the man was intoxicated at the time he reportedly confronted the couple.
