VICTORIA, B.C. — Friday night’s game will be one the Everett Silvertips want to forget.
Nothing went right for the Tips as they fell 5-0 to the Victoria Royals.
Not only was Everett shut out for the third time in five games, the Tips finished the game without captain Ryan Murray, who left the game injured in the second period. The nature or extent of Murray’s injury was not known.
Jamie Crooks scored twice for Victoria (11-10-0-0), which controlled the game from start to finish. Alex Gogolev, Ben Walker and Brandon Fushimi also scored for the Royals, while Patrik Polivko stopped all 20 shots he faced in goal for Victoria.
Austin Lotz stopped 23 of 27 shots in goal for Everett (7-14-0-2) before being pulled early in the third period. Dainel Cotton stopped eight of nine in relief.
Victoria controlled play early and took the lead 6 minutes, 53 seconds into the game. Straight off a face-off, Gogolev batted the puck in from out of the air, giving the Royals a 1-0 lead.
The Royals then dominated the second period, outshooting the Tips 13-3, and Victoria increased its lead to 3-0. Crooks made it 2-0 at 7:19 when he scored after being found all alone out front. Then Walker scored with a shot from the top of the left circle while the Royals were on a five-on-three power play at 13:00.
The second period ended in ill-tempered fashion as the teams engaged in a pair of fracases that involved everyone on the ice at the time.
The Royals put the game away with a pair of goals in the third. Fushimi converted a feed from Logan Fisher in front at 5:49, sending Lotz to the bench. Then Crooks completed the scoring on a breakaway at 12:03.
