Archbishop Murphy vs. Tumwater

When: Today, 7 p.m.

Where: Tumwater High School

Records: Archbishop Murphy 4-2 Cascade Conference, 8-2 overall; Tumwater 5-0 Evergreen League, 10-1 overall

Tumwater scouting report

How it got here: Christian Cummings, a junior running back, scored four touchdowns for Tumwater helping the Thunderbirds to a 45-22 win over Steilacoom in the first round of the 2A state playoffs.

Player to watch: Andrew Brown, RB. The Tumwater senior running back eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark in last week’s win over Steilacoom. The two-time 2A state defending champion in the 400-meter run has also returned four punts and two kickoffs for touchdowns.

Biggest win: Tumwater 35, Capital 28. The Thunderbirds schedule is littered with wins over current playoff teams, but none are bigger than this week four win against a Cougars’ team that are one of the favorites in the 2A state tournament after last week’s thrilling win over Lakewood.

Key to the game: Archbishop Murphy, which is playing Tumwater for the third consecutive postseason, will be relying on its senior leadership to continue its late season push. The Wildcats have won six games in a row, and will have to handle a hostile road environment, while controlling the football and tempo with their running game if they want to make it seven.

Pick: Archbishop Murphy 41, Tumwater 35
