Pederson wins battle between two top Wesco posts
Glacier Peak big man scores 32 to help Grizzlies win the war, beating Kamiak 90-77
"(Vicente and Pederson) know each other from AAU," said Glacier Peak head coach Brian Hunter. "They played on the same team and of course against each other. They're both good and there's mutual respect between them."
Vicente got hot early, hitting shots from all over the court and also pulled down four offensive rebounds to keep the game close. The Knights trailed by four at halftime and actually reversed the deficit to take a four-point lead in the third quarter. But two 3-pointers from Glacier Peak's Ramsey Rosales changed the momemtum and setup Pederson for the fourth.
The 6-foot-6 senior scored all but four of the Grizzlies' points in the final period, yet his coach didn't see anything too extraordinary.
"Zach has been really consistent," said Hunter. "In the fourth, he really didn't do anything outside of his normal game."
Rosales hit five 3s on the night to finish with 17 points and Dreu Vader scored 20 to provide balance on offense for Glacier Peak. The Knights' Liam Jouett had 13 and Josh Wisnubroto finished with 12.
Overall, Glacier Peak shot 57 percent from the field and 45-percent on 3-pointers. Kamiak head coach Cory West has changed his team's style to play up-tempo, including pressing full court, but admitted that his team needs more time to work out the kinks.
"Our defense, especially the transition D, is an issue right now," said West. "We were working on the new offense in practice at first, but it's strictly D for the rest of the season. (Glacier Peak) is a great team and this game was an eye-opener, especially since conference play starts on Friday."
