On the morning of their season opener, members of the Lynnwood football team were informed their head coach won’t be on the sidelines for tonight’s game.
Lynnwood principal Dave Golden informed the team Friday morning that Adam Fermstad will not be on the sidelines at tonight’s game against Shorecrest, according to an email from Edmonds School District spokesperson D.J. Jakala. In his place assistant coaches Keuntea Bankhead and Danny Hawkins will serve as co-interim head coaches.
Jakala did not specify the reason for Fermstad’s absence at tonight’s game, citing an ongoing investigation regarding the coach. She also said that the move right now is not permanent and that the school district’s human resources department is conducting the investigation. Fermstad was not present at Thursday night’s team practice.
Fermstad was hired last year after serving as an assistant at Lynnwood. He took over in 2012 after Mike Don, now the Meadowdale coach, left for Brewster. Fermstad, who was the fifth Royals head coach since 2006, was hoping to put down some roots.
“I’m here at Lynnwood as long as they’ll have me,” Fermstad said when he took the job in 2012.
Lynnwood plays Shorecrest tonight at 8 p.m. at Edmonds District Stadium.
