One of the benefits of a blowout win is it gave the Seahawks ample time to get rookie tackles Alvin Bailey and Michael Bowie their first regular season action. Bowie came in at right tackle when Breno Giacomini left with a knee injury, then moved to left tackle when the starters came out, and Bailey came in to play on the right side.
Asked what he saw from those two, offensive line coach Tom Cable said, “Some really cool stuff. I’m really excited about their future, our future. I thought both those kids went in there and knocked people off the ball, protected really well. They go comfortable really quick, which was a huge moment of growth, if you will, that they’re OK. They can handle it in a regular NFL Game. I’m very pleased with what we saw.”
“I think we saw it in camp, you just don’t know until they really have to go do it. It’s like anything—probably a little reserved that way until they prove it, and they certainly have proved it.”
Asked what that experience does for those players, Cable said, “It’s like gold. Now you feel like you’re not just starting over if you have to do it. They’ve been there, they’ve done it, so it’s just normal preparation, and if they’re called upon they’ve just got to go do what they’re capable of doing. Don’t do anything more than that.”
That experience could be important this week given the uncertainty about Giacomini’s knee.
