SNOHOMISH — Newport knocked off Shorewood 25-17, 25-18 in the final of the Reach The Peak Invite on Saturday.
Newport, ranked sixth in 4A of the latest State Volleyball Coaches Association poll, downed Sumner in the quarterfinals and Everett in the semis.
“They looked like the team to beat,” said Glacier Peak head coach Christopher Pratt.
The host Grizzlies finished tied for third, losing to Shorewood 25-10, 25-23 in a semifinal match, but were missing key contributer Ruby Mensing for most of the tournament.
“Ruby was nursing some injuries and didn’t play much,” said Pratt. “We were really missing another outside hitter.”
Stanwood reached the finals of the consolation bracket, but the Spartans lost to Holy Names in three sets.
