EVERETT — Police are asking for help identifying a man who robbed a woman of her cellphone outside a south Everett apartment complex.
The woman, 36, was selling her smartphone to raise money for her young son’s upcoming brain surgery, according to Everett police. She had posted an advertisement for the phone to Craigslist, a classifieds website.
The woman met with a potential buyer Wednesday evening at Broadway Condominiums, 215 100th Street SW.
The man took the phone and ran, Everett police officer Aaron Snell said.
The woman chased the man, and he tried to punch her. He pushed her away. She grabbed his sweatshirt but he escaped. The sweatshirt had a screwdriver and pepper spray in it, Snell said.
The suspect was described as Hispanic, in his late teens or 20s, and about 5-foot-7 and 180 pounds. He wore a blue and white shirt, a dark hooded sweatshirt and jeans. He left in a silver sedan.
