Girgus, who attends Cedar Park Christian-Bothell, joins Meadowdale seniors Niko May and Jordan Tindall, who both signed NLIs to play for Mount Olive next fall.

Snohomish’s Girgus among three from North Sound to play NCAA Division II lacrosse at Mount Olive College
SNOHOMISH, Wash. – Snohomish prep lacrosse player Gabe Girgus has signed a National Letter of Intent to play NCAA Division II lacrosse at Mount Olive College in North Carolina.
Girgus, a senior independent study student at Bothell’s Cedar Park Christian School who plays prep lacrosse with the combined Snohomish-Glacier Peak high school team, is one of three North Sound student-athletes to sign with the North Carolina college during the recently concluded NCAA early signing period.
Meadowdale High School senior lacrosse players Niko May and Jordan Tindall, who verbally committed to Mount Olive earlier in the year, have also signed NLIs to play for the Trojans next fall.
“I’m honored to be playing at the NCAA level,” said Girgus who will join a Mike Murphy-coached Trojans squad that finished 7-7-0 in 2013 – its first year of NCAA play. “Coach Murphy is a very good coach. Everyone respects him,” Girgus said. “I’m looking forward to playing for him and being a part of the Mount Olive family.”
Girgus is the first student-athlete from Cedar Park to sign a National Letter of Intent this year. When he joins Mount Olive next fall, Girgus will join a Trojans squad that is already stacked with seven Washington state high school graduates including four from the North Sound.
“The NCAA level is pretty intense compared to high school lacrosse,” said Girgus who was a part of the Snohomish-Glacier Peak team that won the Boys Division II lacrosse state championship in 2012 before moving up to the more competitive Division I circuit last spring.
In 2013, Girgus netted 29 points (25g, 4a) and grabbed 29 ground balls for a cut of the team’s scoring title, which he shared with Glacier Peak’s Devin Remlinger.
At Mount Olive, Girgus expects to combine his lacrosse talent, speed and leadership skills developed in Washington state to become a more well-rounded team player, and contributor at the NCAA level.
“The guys are smarter with the ball, faster and much more physical. They go all out on every single play,” he said. “You have to improve on everything when you get up there.”
Among the current Mount Olive lacrosse players from the North Sound are sophomores Ryan Morris and Luke Morris (both of Snohomish, Wash.). Both graduates of Providence Classical Christian School in Lynnwood, Ryan graduated in 2011 while Luke graduate in 2012. Junior Alex Tindall (Lynnwood, Wash.), Jordan Tindall’s brother and a 2010 graduate of Meadowdale High School along with junior Jon Williams (Lynnwood, Wash.), a 2010 graduate of Lynnwood High School, are also playing for the Trojans.
Others from the state on the Trojans lacrosse roster include senior Daniel Shields and sophomore Matt Shields, both Mercer Island High School graduates, and senior Sean Shewey (Redmond, Wash.), a Redmond High School graduate.
This year, a total of five North Sound high school students have signed National Letters of Intent to play at the NCAA level. Along with Girgus, May and Jordan Tindall, Davyd Powell (Snohomish, Wash. / Snohomish HS) has signed with Division I Canisius College in New York and Hanna Dalrymple (Snohomish, Wash. / Glacier Peak High School) has signed with Division I St. Mary’s College in California.
