BOTHELL — Steven Ainsworth allowed only one run and struck out seven over 4? innings to lead the Jackson baseball team to a 3-1 victory over Lynnwood and give the Timberwolves the Wesco 4A South No. 3 seed.
“He was great. He got ahead of a lot of batters and was able to finish them off,” Jackson head coach Kirk Nicholson said of Ainsworth. “The defense played well behind him and he got guys out.”
The Timberwolves jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. After an Aaron Avalos single drove in the first run of the game, Alex Kiel put Jackson up 2-0 with an RBI single of his own. Kiel finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
“He’s swinging it really well,” Nicholson said of Kiel. “He is getting stronger and stronger as the year goes on and he is a hard worker. He is a really good player.”
Tyler Wingert relieved Ainsworth and pitched 2? scoreless innings for Jackson, who held the Royals to just three hits on the afternoon.
The two teams face off again Tuesday, but even with a Lynnwood win the Royals will remain the 4A South No. 4 seed due to Jackson holding the tiebreaker.
